Oh my goodness... Caroline Mitchell!! What a book! I devoured this book this afternoon, I could not stop reading it. I love Ruby Preston and her team... she is strong and relentless. This is the 3rd book in the series and it is only getting better as they go. Absolutely 5 stars all the way for me. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book to read and review. Hurry up with book 4 Caroline!!

"It was easy to identify with the killer as some inhuman monster, impervious to their efforts to stop him in his tracks. But killers were people. And people made mistakes."

*** A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ***

I have to confess it took me a while to warm up to the main character Ruby Preston and that was one of the reasons I didn't enjoy the first book as much as I thought I would. Fortunately enough I had no such problems with book number two, leaving me with very high hopes for Ruby Preston's newest adventure in Murder Game... And this newest installment definitely didn't disappoint. No, I found myself on the edge of my seat as soon as I started reading the first page, craving popcorn as a way to calm my nerves while I turned the pages impatiently to find out what would happen next. Because there is no doubt left that Caroline Mitchell has succeeded in creating another monsterly masterpiece of a serial killer! I have a weak spot for serial killer thrillers and this series without doubt manages to satisfy my somewhat onorthodox cravings for creepy and disturbing characters. You will be in for a treat with this one! The writing is very engaging and draws you right in, and I literally finished Murder Game in one sitting. This story works as a stand-alone as well, although especially the second book is highly recommended as well for serial killer/detective thriller fans. You won't find a boring minute in this story and the fast pace will help you fly through it! Without doubt one of my preferred detective series and one to keep an eye on if you enjoy the genre.

If you are looking for a fast-paced, engaging, twisted serial killer thriller that is packed with plot twists, Murder Game is the right fit for you. Unputdownable and action-packed indeed! I literally finished this third book of the Detective Ruby Preston series in one sitting and it was one hell of a ride. Murder Game was just as good as the sequel Sleep Tight and I will be waiting impatiently for book number four... I'll be making sure to have some popcorn ready next time!

Another brilliant read from Caroline Mitchell. This is the third book in the DI Ruby Mitchell series. I would recommend reading the other books in the series first to get a better insight into Ruby and her background.

In this book Ruby and her team of police officers are trying to find a serial killer who is capturing married woman and sending photographs to their husbands showing them in various states of distress and torture . Ruby and her team must find the killer before it’s too late. The killings are similar to a spate of murders that happened years before and the killer was caught and is now serving a prison sentence . Ruby arranges to meet the prisoner in the hope he will give her clues that will help catch this copycat killer.

This book will have you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out who the killer is. I thought I had it sussed but I was way off the mark ! A fabulous read.

Murder Game is the third book in the Detective Ruby Preston series. I would recommend reading the books in order as there is some history you need to know about Ruby which would be better explained by having at least read the first book in the series plus it’s a great series so why wouldn’t you want to?

I really don’t know how the author comes up with the cases that Ruby finds herself working on. Whether it’s from the authors own background in the police force or not I have no idea but she manages to come up with truly nail biting cases that I can’t get enough on. This one was no different.

The case reminded me slightly of Silence of the Lambs. Mason Gatley could easily give Hannibal Lecter a run for his money. He will certainly mess with your mind never mind poor Ruby’s! I have to admit to really relishing the parts where Ruby visits him in prison.

Murder Game is a story where the author really plays with her readers. It was like a game of snake and ladders, thinking you are getting close to who the murderer is then to be dropped from a height and back to square one again. Such a deliciously twisted read. Loved it.

My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

Murder Game is the third in the Ruby Preston series and I recommend that you read the first two books in the series, Death Note and Sleep Tight to get a full understanding of the relationships in the book, particularly between Ruby and Nathan. Whilst the investigation itself can be read as a standalone, the underlying relationships and struggles are developed throughout the whole series.

In this investigation, Ruby and her team need to find a serial killer who is using a ‘dark web’ dating website to select his victims – he then follows a distinct pattern to inflict pain upon his victims and taunt their family until he kills them. However, this pattern is all too familiar of a previous serial killer who is still behind bars for his crimes – they are too connected to be a coincidence so what’s the link? Also, the team are under immense pressure from the top, not only to catch the killer before he strikes again but to keep this out of the press. Considering the possible links to the ‘Lonely Hearts Killer’, they all know that the press will have a field day with the comparisons.

Within Murder Game, we are also given an insight into the mind of the killer, as far as we are privy to his motives earlier than they are discovered by the team. Also, we get to see the inner turmoil that the killer is having between continuing his ‘plan’ and also his conscious (that’s if a serial killer can actually have a conscious!).

Alongside this investigation, we also see that Ruby and Nathan are more settled – this stability seems to have a positive effect on Ruby generally but there is still an edge to their relationship given Nathan’s criminal family. Cathy, their daughter, has also settled into Crosby life and enjoying being looked after, even if it is a bit suffocating at times!

Murder Game is fast paced – both through Caroline’s writing style and also the fact that the team are against the clock to prevent any further murders given the killers three-day ‘process’ to his murders.
I completely recommend this fantastic series – they are fast paced from start to finish and are exactly what the tagline states “a gripping serial killer thriller you won’t be able to put down”.

Great easy read, characters I immediately identified with and a cracking main plot. I really had no idea who the perpetrator was. I’m annoyed I read this without having read the first two in the series as I think a lot of the subplot has been covered here but I’m going to go buy them anyway. Looking forward to #4 already

I received a copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I am really enjoying the Ruby Preston series. Caroline Mitchell has done a great job in making interesting characters, from the recurring ones to the new ones introduced.

There are many twists in the book, and it kept me guessing throughout. There are many intense moments, especially those with the killer, and when Ruby tries to get help from another killer in prison. The ending was especially brilliant.

I really enjoy reading about Ruby's private life too, so the balance of work and family life in the book is great. The Crosby's are such brilliant (and some insane) characters! I loved the scene with Ruby, Cathy and Frances Crosby.

As always, a brilliant story from. Caroline, and I can’t wait for the next one!
