I enjoyed this book. It’s told from 3 people’s perspectives, a young girl, a young man, and an old woman. The young girl lives next to the old woman, who then goes to hospital and dies. And she leaves her house to the young man who she knew when he was a little boy. The young man then moves into the house and becomes friends with the little girl. The little girl has an older sister who just ran away. It was just a nice little story about people.

Another excellent read from Mary Lawson. I grew up in a small village and there are many aspects of this story that ring true. Everyone may know your business but more importantly everyone knows you. As a caring community who respectfully steps in when necessary. I loved the characters, their relationships, their history and the story line. Each character finds solace .

Seven year-old Clara refuses to eat dinner at the table as she wants to look at the window for the return of her runaway sister. She notices a strange man moving in next door to the house of Ms. Orchard, who left Clara in charge of her cat Moses during a hospital stay.

Great book. I would describe it as intriguing and suspenseful. Quite confusing at the beginning and then the strands all come together in a very humane way.

This book started slowly for me but by the midway point I liked it much more. I thought that Clara's point of view was well written and believable. Overall a good book and a nice easy read.
