It got really slow in the middle of the first part, and I had no interest reading about a basically new character from part two

Ingrid Persaud’s pen? Immaculate! She had us hooked.

The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh gives a fictional account of the real-life Trinidadian gangster through the eyes of the four romantic interests of his lifetime:

Popo, the catalyst for Boysie’s rise to power, is an ex-prostitute whom he marries to help her escape her lifestyle but it turns out out to be a worse nightmare than she can imagine.

Mana Lana, Boysie’s childhood sweetheart and mother of his only child, whose devotion to Boysie knows no end to the point of betraying friends and family.

Doris, a small-town “red skin” Catholic, becomes Boysie’s second wife and believes she is destined for a life of money and power.

Rosie, Boysie’s childhood friend, is now a shopkeeper caught in the crossfire of Boysie’s dealings.

The catch about these women is that their actions when it comes to Boysie will infuriate you at times (most times) but the truth is that these characters are raw and could be any woman you know that's just so wrapped up in a man’s web. The inclusion of the Trini dialect brings each of these characters to life (especially if you listen to the audio). These women are flawed, yes, but you will find yourself empathizing with them after realizing they were just pawns in Boysie’s ambitions.
