This book is absolutely unbelievable, but totally fun and a hysterical read. Wouldn't it be fun if sometimes we all could have our little inner fantasy lives comes true!

this has to be the best of helen fieldings books (not many to choose from but hey...) olivia joules takes one "clue" way too far and suddenly, well you'll just have to read! fun for anyone who wonders if they overthink things!

More than usually preposterous for the chick-lit genre, I was mildly disappointed in the lead for seeming to constantly violate her "I don't need a man" mantra. It also appeared that every other female character seemed to be a bimbo or a witch (aside from an unseen concerned friend), and the men couldn't fall over themselves fast enough to drool over out heroine. Light and frothy with basically no depth, unlike the other Fielding titles I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Okay, disclaimer first: I effing LOVED Bridget Jones' Diary. And I loved the sequel even more (which is weird for me!). So, I was going in with crazy-high hopes for this one.
It's not that it disappointed... Because Fielding definitely still has the same fun, goofy, slightly awkward voice here that I loved so much in the Bridget series. And I do like that this one had a high-stakes plot, and excitement and action.
I think it's just that... the high-stakes plot and the lighthearted goofy-fun voice didn't really mesh very well. There were points where the main character was about to die/watching someone else die/in horrible danger, and she was all "mmm, hot man" or cracking jokes. Which I could understand if it was a tension-relief because she was so freaked out, but she never seemed to be very freaked-out that I could see. The action sequences were all pretty detached, and not very visual, so it was often hard to pick out what exactly was happening in them.
Overall, it was still enjoyable. It made me smile at parts, and I loved that the MC is not-your-average-Jane-Bond. She's quirky and silly and you can totally picture yourself in her shoes as she's facing off against terrorists and mad plots to take over the world, etc. So, if you're in the mood for a not-too-serious action-adventure, this one's a good bet :)

I wanted to like this book, I really did. But it just doesn't have the Bridget Jones magic at all.

Pretty typical chick lit in a lot of ways, although I found the plot kind of more all over the place then usual. It was a cut above a lot of this sort of book, though, as the main character was strong and capable and not obsessing over getting a man. Good fluff, but had some weird pacing stuff going on.

I want to give this 3.5 stars really because it's better than 3 stars but loses half a star for getting a bit silly in the last quarter of the book.
Previously I really enjoyed Helen Fielding's Cause Celeb but didn't rate Bridget Jones Diary as I felt the format didn't do it justice.
Olivia Joules is definately more like Cause Celeb than Bridget Jones but it's not quite as good as Cause Celeb unfortunately. Having said that I did enjoy it as a fairly light frothy read but there were some violent moments which came a bit out of the blue.
I quite liked the Olivia character and the story and plot kept moving throughout the book which I followed with interest. Certainly a lot more entertaining than many chick lit type books I've tried before.
