Keats: A Brief Life in Nine Poems and One Epitaph by Lucasta Miller
5.0
I have been reading Keats poetry, biography (Andrew Motion), letters and essays this month. It has been an absolute joy.
I wasn’t going to pick this book up because of reading Motions book. That book seems pretty comprehensive, but I decided to read this too and I am so glad I did, it was very very good. It had the perfect combination of no speculation or supposition but a real personal passion for the subject backed by references.
I think this book would be excellent not just for a Keats enthusiast but for anyone who wants to read more poetry. This is because it talked about the poems and discussed meaning but also how that fitted in with the era and the poet. It is a way of thinking that I think would make poetry more intriguing generally.
All in all I loved this book and did have a bit of a cry at the end.
