Okay. I feel as though this novel has taught me to try and remember to separate the author from the protagonist - though it has proved difficult, Nabokov's notes at the end helping in doing so.
The first 20 or so pages of the novel was very difficult to read, I was very close to stopping and throwing it away because it is absolutely vile the way a grown man (Humbert, remember) talks of literal children. However, once it got going, I must say the prose was quite absorbing. Because it is written as his thoughts, you find yourself reading at a pace similar to how the thoughts come into his head; quick and a little manic. That being said, he sometimes (quite often) rambled about random, boring things so that, at times, the plot got a little stale and uninteresting.
Overall, I am glad I read it, with it being a classic and all. Though part of me can't believe this was ever allowed to be published, I think it’s important to remember that a great novel can also be one that is horrible and morally wrong and deals with difficult themes, because evoking negative emotions is just as successful as evoking positive emotions.

“It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight.”
“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta."
