Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

1.0

I pirated this book about an hour ago and just had to stop and check that I didn't mistakenly download a gag book (no pun intended). The writing is horrible. I went to high school with at least a handful of people (none of whom became writers) who could have done better than this as high school seniors.

There is no pacing, awful dialogue, and cliches out the wazoo. I'm already picking up on weird plot holes and all the telltale signs that this "writer" is not a very observant or dedicated reader. The usage of English is abominable. The scenes so far that are meant to be building sexual tension are laughably corny and dimwitted. I only picked it up for the cultural relevancy but I'm about to shout my safe word here and move on. There's nothing that can happen in the rest of the book to change my opinion.
