After the Sabriel series I figured I'd just slip into something else by Nix. These seem a bit younger, but definitely not condescending. They remind me a bit of The Phantom Tollbooth, but not, well, condescending. Like if Gaiman wrote The Phantom Tollbooth. Sort of. I'm not explaining this well.
