One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia
5.0
Ooh this book is so good. I love how Williams-Garcia crafts protagonist Delphine and her two sisters, Vonetta and Fern, into full, vibrant, intentional characters. I love how Williams-Garcia interrogates the concept of motherhood and the importance of naming and bestowing names. I love that Williams-Garcia shows her readers the Oakland that does not get remembered or represented as much as it should and the hospitality and generosity of the Black Panther Party that generally goes unmentioned in white conversations about the movement.
An incredible, engaging read.
