I have carried this book with me, throughout, I'd say, some 15 years. I cannot remember where I got the copy from. I simply know that I started reading it on the bus, on my way to the dentist in 2007. Very detailed? Yeah, I found a bus receipt on the page I had stopped reading. Haha...
But... There must have been a reason I kept this book with me. It's a firm favourite of mine, now. It's full of that aching romantic soul and spirit, that aching love for something that we cannot grasp, that love for nature... The sadness and death and realism. The fact that life has to be accepted.
I love this book. Peter Camenzind is very like someone very close to me, and I intend to one day write a book about his life. Except, he's not the 'son of mountains' like Peter, but the son of the forests. If my brother only read books, he would recognize himself on those pages.
Poetic, with a clear eye and firm understanding of surroundings, 'Peter Camenzind' has blown me away.
