Difficult to rate this book really!
I'm sure the original stories are great but I found the translation (Peaver and Volokonsky) extremely clunky and difficult to read, I had to put it down half way through the second story.
I found the syntax very strange, I assume it is faithful to the original Russian but unfortunately to a native English speaker it was unsettling.
If you fancy reading Gogol's short works in English - seek out a different translation!
