Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
2.0
TLDR: Dystopian Fantasy. Expected Accompanying Love Triangle. Heavy handed use of extended similes that forgot the ‘b’ in subtle. If you’ve read other dystopian novels, fairly predictable.
Review: It’s dystopian fantasy. Very Hunger Games and Red Rising. The ‘Silvers’ have powers and rule, the ‘Reds’ are working class. LOTS of long-winded similes that force the concepts and the points and comparisons the author is trying to make at you instead of letting you draw the conclusion yourself. Oh! Could the Reds with their bent backs while the Silvers stand tall be referring to ~something~???
Also- love triangle-esq, but with brothers. Which adds a whole other layer to my general not-a-fan of love triangles thing.
Overall- not absolutely horrible. Probably a good rec for an entry level dystopian fan who doesn’t have the basic plot in mind already from a past-read dystopian work.
