While the premise was strong, I found the story rather predictable and too much of the plot happening conveniently, rather than naturally. Like how
the Queenstrial was never mentioned until it was happening THE EXACT DAY Mare is brought to work at the palace. Huge, once a generation event to find the next queen of the land that was never mentioned until the plot needed it.
