Christmas for Beginners by Carole Matthews

3.0

More drama than expected with double accidental pregnancies and a miscarriage. Lucas like in the 1st book is moody and quite mean and sometimes rude. Shelby becomes more selfish in this book. The break up seemed so sudden and not thought out and unrealistic.

Boring in parts, the posh accent gets annoying and it's like she mispronounces things so at times difficult to understand. The dates with Roman are good. Quite a few character names to remember in the Royal family.
The long descriptions of kissing are so cringey. Not as clean and wholesome as expected long descriptions of undressing, kissing and touching each other.

One Summer in Paris by Sarah Morgan

dark emotional
A slow start with quite a few characters, Mimi and her ballet career. Then it moves on to an alcoholic mother and her suffering child and bullying. It takes many chapters until we get to Paris. There's a lot of dialogue and it's not very good.

adventurous dark emotional funny hopeful relaxing sad tense

2.0

There is some moderate angst when she's pushed out of her comfort zone. There are some tense and sad moments
a sick chicken, the risk of getting evicted as the land has been bought for a train line

There is a lot of sulking and rudeness from the son throughout and more drama half way through. I can't believe she slept with the boy's father when she's supposed to stay impartial and have the boy's best interests at heart, not to mention that he already has a girlfriend. Shelby is really selfish leaving his son behind during a difficult time which they fight about . I don't know why he has his son go to therapy but he won't go himself because his wife died. There is so much insomnia with the main character. There isn't any gradual character development, most of her courage comes from alcohol. The first third of the story was relaxing, the rest had too much drama. The title is misleading.

dark emotional hopeful relaxing sad tense

2.0

Darker than the other books in the series unfortunately, with a manipulative coercive controller narcissistic husband, isolating his wives, locking them up and being verbally abusive.
There is no prologue and the ending is unsatisfying. Its definitely not cozy enough to be worth a second read.

The gossiping about a woman being cheated on refusing to get divorced was annoying taking away from the story of the animal rescue, have seen others refer to it as a drama with gaslighting ,so stopped listening since those don’t make for an easy relaxing listen. This book seems to have a lot of characters.
