Shrugs loosely. I clock what this book is going for. I dig it. Yeong-hye is cool.
I do not think the execution was the best, though. But I fw this book for existing

It is working on your body; it is working and working as fire works on the wood it consumes; as worms work on the carcass of an animal.
SIGH. Another banger unfortunately. I loved the vampire worldbuilding I think the entire concept of like The Vampiric Species being the vestiges of this single petulant spirit is so so so so so cool, Anne Rice you cooked on this front & many others. Really neat worldbuilding. I loved all the characters in here I found the random introduction of an ancient one named Eric to be, very funny. Let's get a THE VAMPIRE ERIC tale.
Lots of cool shit happening in here, more Armand which always tickles me silly, more Marius who outside of Lestat's googoo eyed idealization of him comes off as like a mopey teenager which is very funny to me. Maharet you're cool as shit. Jesse #YES. AKASHA YES. She's such a veritable fiend like ohmy gyadddd I fw her so much. This book is sooooo intriguing, also so #blessed to not be narrated by Lestat the whole time. Prose was as amazing as always no matter the narrator. Much gnarlier than TVL, I honestly liked it way more I wish I could give this like a 5.5 stars. Yet also, lots of weird shit here too and not in a good way
I am not sure if I will continue to read these books, I feel like I only have so much space in my body for vampiric antics and not much more of a taste for Lestat. The question remains of what more can you do to him, he is like The Vampire, but perhaps more pressingly--What more can you do to him that I will care about. But we'll see.

For each was so surprised at the quickness of the other’s sympathy, and it was to each such a revelation that a woman could be as tolerant and free-spoken a a man, and a man as strange and subtle as a woman, that they had put the matter to the proof at once.
This book feels like falling into the world's slowest flowing whirlpool. Here it is funny; there it is baffling; here it is magical; there it is lovely; yet most of the time a little too meandering for my liking. But I still had fun reading it. Kind of feels like a queer fairytale. Queer in the gendered sense but also in the literal sense of the word, like, Peculiar. Very sharp commentary abt sexuality. Would love a crossover episode between Tristram Shandy and this novel's biographer-narrator. Cheers Orlando.

“I AM TELLING YOU I AM A VAMPIRE!” I screamed suddenly.
Ecstasy, delirium.
“I AM EVIL! EVIL!”
“Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, YES, YES, YES.”
I don’t know. What do you think storygraph user thevampirelestat thought about Anne Rice’s 1985 THE VAMPIRE LESTAT?
I am a superfan of the 2022 TV adaptation of IWTV but this is the first book I picked up in the series and I literally scarfed this shit down voraciously. Like I loved it saur much. Cannot wait to read QOTD. I really was not expecting to love this book as much as I did but it was so fun. My most fun read in quite awhile. Great prose, lestat as a narrator is so delightful; I love that he is anne rice's special snowflake, i love that everyone is just inexorably drawn to him, it's so unserious and funny to me. But in my humble opinion the star of the show in this book is armand who i appreciate so much more here than in the show. Lots of interesting psychologies, this book does So Much with the topic of immortality that i think any writer interested in even exploring it could learn from, so many interesting perspectives and deeply perturbed psychologies in here. I love you Gabrielle. I love so much about this book. I could say so much but I need to sleep now. Bye

If you took a shot every time a man "cries" something out, You would die, and then your eternal soul would also die. Anyway I kind of love this book. Evelina and Maria are so sapphic to me but I suppose I will tuck that treatise away for another day.

There was a bitter taste on thy lips. Was it the taste of blood? . . . Nay; but perchance it was the taste of love.
