The war may have ended and the Americans have arrived, but the war for survival is still waged by the citizens of Japan. There are a lot of smaller stories that happen in this volume as the world moves along and the nation rebuilds. Gen's family is kicked out of their lodgings so they return to Hiroshima and built a little shack in the rubble (kind of like the ones in Godzilla Minus One, actually a lot of the rebuilding scenes in that movie could have been pulled directly from this book). The boys then go off and look for food, as symptoms of malnutrition begin to make an appearance, and find out that if they say they're hungry, the Americans give them gum. I don't know why the Americans had so much gum, but it was being thrown about left and right in this volume. The children also start going back to school in a drafty bombed out building. Ryuta ends up killing two men and getting involved with gangsters who manipulate the children to work for them. We also learn about a woman who is raped by an American (a common occurrence), and decides to become a sex worker in order to have enough food for her and her sister to live. We then reach the climax of the story which is the disappearance of Gen's baby sister, who is being passed off as many people's child so that they can die in peace. This ultimately leads to her getting sick, everyone banding together to raise money to heal her, and then her death. This family just can't get a break.

As a side note, this volume is has one of the funniest moments in the whole series, when the boys steal a bunch of canned "food" that turns out to be condoms. Not knowing what condoms are, they start blowing them up and playing with the "balloons".

The amount of strength that this young man has is just so impressive and it speaks volumes about the Japanese people. It's only with this amount of hope and strength they were able to change their world and be who they are today.

La puntuación es más bien por toda la serie, más que por este volumen.

Última parte de las aventuras de Gen y su familia (en la más ámplia de las definiciones). Me da la impresión que este libro carga mucho más las tintas en lo de dar grandes discursos adoctrinadores sobre las maldades de la bomba atómica. También, a diferencia del volumen anterior, añade muchas escenas de peleas, y de hecho puede que cada seis páginas haya una.

Pero a pesar del exceso de peleas absurdas, violencia algo gratuita, melodrama, malvados de opereta, sentido del humor entre infantil e incomprensible por la brecha cultural y algún que otro momento narrativo increíble (porque es difícil creérselo), sigue siendo una historia muy entretenida y muy fácil de leer que te enseña mucho sobre lo que tuvieron que sufrir los supervivientes de Hiroshima.

Es un manga que critica tanto el uso de las armas atómicas, como la guerra, los abusos de los ocupantes americanos, así como las propias salvajadas que el ejército japonés hizo en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. A veces es un poco demasiado infantil e idealista, pero no por ello deja de tener su encanto como testimonio de un hecho terrible y una época muy dura.

نزل الجنود الأمريكان اليابان ادي للقصة جانب جديد كانت محتاجاه لأن انت خلاص كنت تقريبًا شفت كل تفاعلات أهل البلد مع بعض، و شفت معاناة قبل و بعد الحرب، و كفاح من أجل البقاء علي قيد الحياة.
دلوقتي بقي الجانب الخبيث، لما اي بلد بتبقي محتله او في حالة اليابان مهزومه في حرب و مفروض عليهم حماية او شئ مشابه، جنود العدو بيخشوا البلد و بيشتغل معاهم ناس من أهل البلد و يكونوا ثروات من وراهم، حصلت عندنا في مصر، و بتحصل في كل حته، حتي الخدمات الجنسية مش بيجيبوا عاهرات من بره بيستخدموا الموجود.
الدراسة كمان رجعت تاني ، و ده دخل بيئة جديدة لجن و أصدقاء و علاقات جديدة.
من الواضح ان الأوضاع بدأت تستقر لأن الأم و الأخ الأكبر معندهمش مشكلة انهم يلاقوا شغل بس مع ذلك واضح ان الأجر ضئيل جدًا.
للأسف بنخسر ريوتا في الجزء ده بس بفكر الحقيقة هل هي دي آخر مرة نشوفه فيها ولا لا.
و أنا بقرأ نبذة المؤلف المرة دي أخدت بالي من حاجة كيجي المؤلف خسر أبوه و أمه و أختين و أخ أصغر منه بسبب القنبلة الذرية ، حتي الآن جن خسر بالظبط نفس العدد من الأهل بنفس الجنس الا أمه، فلو القصة داخل فيها سيرة ذاتية لكيجي بشكل ما، يبقي الأم كمان هتموت في الكام جزء الجايين.
